The South County History Center collects archival and library materials and select artifacts that relate to the history and culture of South County, Rhode Island, which the Center defines as matching the geographic boundaries of Washington County. The majority of these collections have been generously donated to the Center by people who want to ensure the preservation of important materials and share these treasures with others.
The Center collects relevant materials from all time periods and strives to include archives, research and objects that represent the diverse communities that contribute to the culture of South County. We welcome the donation of collections materials and objects that further an interest in, experience of and appreciation for the history and culture of South County and that comply with our Collections Management Policy.
In addition to accepting physical collections, the Center is also interested in acquiring digital collections, making it possible for donors to maintain their family materials but leaving a digital copy that can be used for educational and research purposes.
If you are considering a contribution to the South County History Center or would like more information about our Collections Management Policy, please contact Erica Luke, Executive Director, at erica@southcountyhistorycenter.org or 401.783.1328.
Please do not leave or send any objects or materials to the Center without prior coordination with the Center’s staff. Any objects or materials mailed to the Center or left on the Center’s premises without prior consultation with the Center’s staff will be considered an anonymous, unrestricted donation. The Center reserves the right to determine the appropriate treatment of the materials.
